Information Exchange Software for MS-DOS

GO.EXE is the usual file name for my Personal Computer software for MS-DOS. The software is custom built to users' requirements using the Opsys software library.

The single program module GO.EXE (or whatever you choose to call it) contains all your Opsys applications; you specify the applications you require through the Change Settings dialog on each PC individually. An activated application runs in a Session, for example:

The Terminal Session emulates a terminal on your minicomputer, when the two are connected via a serial port. The session also includes a mechanism called Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE), providing automated exchange of data between the minicomputer and the PC.

DDE is particularly relevant where the minicomputer has no native networking capability.

The Telecom Session handles a telephone line via a modem, usually to pick up and, if necessary, queue your customers' orders. A co-operating DDE protocol, running in the Terminal Session, can pass each order to your minicomputer in time to forward the outcome to the customer.
The Archiving Session stores the text of documents generated by your minicomputer, indexes the documents and provides retrieval facilities.

In a Windows MS-DOS Box, press Alt+Enter to switch between a window and full-screen mode.
